Durango Wine Experience set for Spring 2009
Scenic mountain town to welcome more than 100 wineries at third annual wine festivalDURANGO, Colo,—Often known for its extreme adventures, world class biking and blue ribbon waters, Durango, Colorado has found its place in the wine world with the Durango Wine Experience. The third annual wine festival is set for May 1 and 2, 2009, with a special welcome event slated for April 30. Enjoying Glacier Club as its Host Sponsor, the Durango Wine Experience will include two public wine tastings as well as three educational seminars. The first public tasting is the “Walk-About Durango,” a traveling taste held at several Downtown locations, on Friday, May 1. On Saturday, May 2, Wine Experience attendees may select from among three educational seminars, all within walking distance of Historic Downtown Durango and attended by Master Sommeliers and Certified Wine Educators. Winemaker dinners are also scheduled for various Downtown restaurants on Friday and Saturday nights. The Grand Tasting concludes the festivities Saturday evening and will take place under the festival tents in Downtown. In 2008, participants included Francis Coppola Winery, Winebow Imports, Justin Winery, Elyse and Penfolds, and more. Co-chaired by Karen Barger, sommelier and owner of the Wine Spectator-accredited Seasons Rotisserie & Grill, and Joe Leder, sommelier and Durango Liquor & Wine Co. proprietor, the 2009 Durango Wine Experience will benefit the United Way of Southwest Colorado. In conjunction with Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado, United Way will provide the army of volunteers needed to coordinate activities throughout the festival. A limited number of tickets are available for all Friday and Saturday tasting events and seminars. Those purchasing Platinum Passes are invited to the new welcome event Thursday evening, April 30.
