Grower Champagnes are sparkling wines made in the Champagne region of France that are produced by the same estate that owns the vineyards. Large Champagne houses may use grapes sourced from as many as 80 different vineyards.  The families that produce Grower Champagnes not only own the land, but pick and press the grapes, blend and bottle it themselves. A Grower Champagne can be identified by the initials RM, which stands for Récoltant-Manipulanton the wine label. Join Paul Tocco of Synergy Fine Wines to taste the terroir of some of his favorite Grower Champagnes, including Terry Thiese.

Believe the hype, Malbec is the latest grape to achieve celebrity status.  Malbec even has its own World Day! Despite all of the recent press and attention to the wines of Argentina, Malbec is not a new grape on the scene. Malbec has been a part of the Bordeaux blend for centuries. It has many names in France, from Cot to Pressac to Auxerrois and has always been the main grape of Cahors. In France, Malbec tends to mineral and rustic flavors, where in Argentina it has developed a following for its jammy spiciness, and softer accessibility. Malbec is also grown in California, Chile, Washington State, Australia, South Africa, Oregon and New Zealand. Our panel of experts will lead you through a tasting of eight Malbec’s from around the world.
